Protecting Minors
This page is written for parents, guardians and anyone whose household devices are also used by young people. It also applies to every Cold Lake Casino player, at all times, from sign-up through every session.
Playing at 19+ only
Cold Lake Casino is for adults aged 19+. No exceptions, no trial accounts for younger users and no real-money play before checks are complete.
- Anyone under 19 cannot register, deposit, bet or claim any offer.
- Our Terms & Conditions forbid opening an account for a minor or allowing a minor to play on your account.
- We direct our marketing at adults only and never use content intended to attract young people.
- You can sign up only if your local law permits it. We follow Canadian rules on age checks, ID checks and anti-money laundering.
Securing shared devices
Phones, tablets and laptops are often passed around at home. A saved login can open the door to a younger person. A few simple habits close it.
- Sign out whenever you finish a session.
- Don't let your browser save your Cold Lake Casino password.
- Set a PIN, pattern, fingerprint or face unlock to lock your device.
- Keep your account password private and change it if you think someone else knows it.
- Before you walk away, close the casino so it is not left on screen.
- Keep cards and e-wallet details out of reach and out of autofill on shared devices.
You are responsible for every action on your account. If a young person gets in because a login was left open, that is still a breach of our rules.
Checking every player's age
We do not rely on a tick box. Age checks run before any money can go in.
- To sign up, give us your full name exactly as it appears on your legal ID, plus your birth date.
- These details are checked electronically ahead of your first deposit.
- If the electronic check falls short, we ask for a government photo document.
- A geolocation check confirms your playing location.
- We may run fresh checks later, for example if account details change or activity looks unusual.
Our Verification and AML page covers documents and checks in full.
Adding parental controls and filters
Our checks block minors from playing. Device controls block them from reaching gambling sites in the first place. Phones, tablets, computers and home routers usually come with these settings.
- Device parental controls: set up a child profile that blocks gambling sites and app downloads.
- Content filtering software: block whole categories, including gambling, on every browser.
- Router settings: apply filters to every device on your home network.
- App store settings: require a password for any download or purchase.
- Separate user accounts: give each family member their own login on shared computers.
Talk with young people about gambling too. The YMCA Youth Gambling Awareness Program offers free information for youth and families. The Responsible Gambling Council also has resources for parents.
Acting when we find a minor
If we find out, or have solid grounds to believe, that a player is under 19, we act right away.
- The account is suspended immediately.
- We ask for proof of age. Without valid proof, the account is closed.
- Any bet placed by a minor is void. Winnings from it are forfeited.
- Where the payment network allows it, we refund deposits to the method used to make them.
- Any bonuses and loyalty points under Cold Lake Rewards are removed.
- Any adult who knowingly allowed a minor to play may have their own account closed as well.
- We block repeat sign-up attempts using the same details.
Canadian law obliges us to keep records of these cases. Our How We Handle Your Data page explains how that information is treated.
Contacting us about a minor
Think a minor has opened an account or used yours? Email us right away. Give the username or email address concerned, plus any details that help us locate the account.
We treat every report seriously and confidentially, and we reply by email once we have taken action. Parents and guardians do not need an account with us to send a report.
